History

The Old Post Office Lisbane is situated on the road between Comber and Downpatrick and the building dates back to the 1840s. It is a grade II listed building and had lain derelict for 14 years before being acquired in 2004 by husband and wife team Alison and Trevor Smylie.

They have extensive experience in the hospitality industry and were keen to create a local facility where they could deliver quality food using the best of local ingredients in the memorable surroundings of the "Old Post Office."

The pictures on this page show some of the restoration work they undertook using local bog oak where possible and of course restoring the original thatched roof. Many local people helped in the restoration process which has created a delightful and charming eatery which now includes a Pantry offering great food to take away and a Gift Shop showing some great locally produced arts and crafts.
